USABC Supports Next Phase of the ASEAN Single Window

(Jakara, Indonesia) On October 19, 2026, the US-ASEAN Business Council (USABC), supported by Amazon Web Services and in partnership with the U.S. Mission to ASEAN and U.S.-ASEAN Partnership Program, co-organized the 7th ASEAN Single Window (ASW) Symposium. Bringing together more than 150 participants representing the ASW Steering Committee, ASW Technical and Legal Working Groups, the ASEAN Secretariat, and business communities, the Symposium served as a platform for public-private discussions on the ASW's current operations identified from the 2026 ASW Users Survey findings, business requirements for cross-border electronic document exchange, and priorities for advancing existing single window frameworks. Participants also exchanged best practices and insights to better align the future ASW enhancements with business needs and regional trade facilitation objectives.

“The ASEAN Single Window demonstrates how regional cooperation can deliver practical benefits for businesses through the electronic exchange of trade documents to reduce paperwork, expedite customs processes, and improve coordination among relevant authorities. These give businesses greater predictability in planning shipments, managing costs, and reaching customers. Priorities for the ASW next generation should include deepening its utilization, expanding document exchange based on practical business needs, and strengthening trade facilitation and regulatory compliance. One practical step forward is to establish public-private co-innovation frameworks, such as digital sandboxes, where customs authorities and technology partners can test electronic document exchange, real-time data sharing, and end-to-end supply chain visibility at scale. USABC Members like Amazon Web Services stand ready to support these initiatives as technology partners, providing the secure, scalable, and resilient infrastructure needed to power these sandboxes while ensuring customers retain control over their data,” highlighted Mario Masaya, USABC’s Vice President of Research, Technology, and Financial Services, during his opening remarks.

USABC remains committed to supporting ASEAN’s economic integration through active private sector engagement and promoting the wider use of electronic trade documents under the ASW platforms. Through continued collaboration with ASEAN governments and industry stakeholders, USABC looks forward to supporting the ASW’s development in ways that advance a more connected, efficient, and business-responsive regional trading environment.
