US-ASEAN Business Council Meets with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Laos Saleumxay Kommasith on the Sidelines of the 79th UN General Assembly

(New York, NY) - On September 25, US-ASEAN Business Council (USABC) President & CEO Ambassador Ted Osius met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Laos Saleumxay Kommasith on the sidelines of the 79th UN General Assembly in New York. ​ 

Deputy Prime Minister Saleumxay Kommasith and Ambassador Ted Osius discussed Laos’ long-term objectives for infrastructural connectivity, digital transformation, and clean energy production. Deputy Prime Minister Saleumxay Kommasith reaffirmed Laos’ support for U.S. investment, while Ambassador Osius highlighted the American business community’s readiness to support Laos’ sustainable economic growth. Ambassador Osius additionally commended the Government of Laos for its effective leadership during this year’s ASEAN Chairmanship. ​ 

Deputy Prime Minister Saleumxay Kommasith and Ambassador Osius also discussed future points of collaboration between USABC and the Government of Laos, including USABC’s upcoming Business Mission to Laos in November 2024. ​ 

On behalf of USABC and its members, Ambassador Osius extended condolences for the loss of life in Laos owing to Typhoon Yagi, reaffirming USABC’s commitment to mobilizing private sector resources to assist the people of Laos in the aftermath of the disaster.
