US-ASEAN Business Council Hosts Series of Business Roundtables on the Sidelines of the 2025 Spring Meetings of the World Bank Group (WBG) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF)

(Washington, D.C.) During the week of the 2025 Spring Meetings of the World Bank Group (WBG) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the US-ASEAN Business Council (USABC) held a series of business roundtables with visiting delegations from Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand.

On April 22, USABC held a roundtable with Minister of Health of Indonesia Budi Gunadi Sadikin during his visit to Washington. Alongside the Minister, the discussion featured Dr. Asnawi Abdullah, Director General of the Health Policy Agency, and Dr. Bonanza Perwira Taihitu, Senior Advisor to the Minister of Health on Health Politics and Globalization. The roundtable focused on Indonesia’s health priorities, including the importance of sustainable healthcare financing and preventive healthcare.

On April 23, USABC President & CEO Ambassador Ted Osius (ret.) met with Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs of Indonesia Airlangga Hartarto at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel for a one-on-one discussion. Ambassador Osius shared perspectives from U.S. industry to build on the broader U.S.-Indonesia trade dialogue ahead of the Minister’s discussion with the U.S. Department of the Treasury. Separately, USABC member companies engaged with Deputy Coordinating Minister of Economic Affairs Dr. Edi Pambudi, where they gained insights into Indonesia’s strategic response to the U.S. administration’s evolving trade policy.

Later that day, USABC and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce co-hosted a roundtable for Mr. Narit Therdsteerasukdi, Secretary General of the Thailand Board of Investment (BOI), during his visit to the United States. The event featured Ambassador of Thailand to the United States Dr. Suriya Chindawongse, along with senior Thai government officials. The roundtable provided a platform for the U.S. private sector to share their perspectives on strengthening U.S.-Thailand economic ties and enhancing Thailand's investment competitiveness.

On April 24, USABC hosted a luncheon discussion with the Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry of Malaysia Tengku Zafrul bin Tengku Abdul Aziz. This engagement offered participants the opportunity to exchange views with the Minister on the future of U.S.-Malaysia trade and investment relations, regional supply chain resilience, and Malaysia’s evolving role in the global economy.

Later that day, USABC and Global Counsel co-hosted a business roundtable with Deputy Managing Director Leong Sing Chiong from the Monetary Authority of Singapore. The conversation’s topics encompassed U.S. tariff policy, capital markets integration, and digital assets.

On April 25, USABC hosted a business roundtable with Indonesia’s Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati and Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warijyo. The discussion provided an important platform for the U.S. private sector to work with the Government of Indonesia on identifying win-win solutions in the ongoing tariff discussion, advancing trade facilitation, and deepening bilateral economic ties.
