US-ASEAN Business Council Hosts Business Roundtable with General Secretary and President Tô Lâm of Vietnam on the Sidelines of UN General Assembly

(New York, NY) - On the sidelines of the 79th United Nations General Assembly, the US-ASEAN Business Council (USABC), the Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU), and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce (USCC) co-hosted a business roundtable in honor of His Excellency Tô Lâm, President of Vietnam and General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

The roundtable, which gathered senior leaders from leading U.S. companies, follows the first anniversary of the U.S.-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which took effect in September 2023. This new chapter in bilateral relations is a signal of the deepening trust and economic cooperation between the two nations, underscoring Vietnam’s increasing prominence as a key partner to the United States.

President Tô Lâm was accompanied by senior government officials and met with executives from major American firms across multiple industries, including energy, finance, e-commerce, consumer goods, and renewable energy.

In his opening remarks, Ambassador Ted Osius, President & CEO of the US-ASEAN Business Council, expressed his gratitude to President Tô Lâm and emphasized the growing bilateral partnership. “Thanks to your leadership, the U.S.-Vietnam relationship continues to reach new heights. The deepening ties between our two nations continue to deliver mutual benefits across a range of critical areas," said Ambassador Ted Osius. “U.S. companies view Vietnam as a key market and one of the leading destinations for diversifying business operations," he added. ​

During his keynote remarks, President Tô Lâm emphasized the growing strength and potential of the Vietnam-U.S. Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. He underscored Vietnam’s commitment to fostering a favorable environment for foreign investors, including those from the United States, and highlighted key areas for cooperation, such as digital transformation, high-tech industries, and sustainable energy.

He called on U.S. investors to explore opportunities in priority sectors such as science, technology, renewable energy, and the semiconductor industry. "I hope that all of you will join us us as we move into a new era of cooperation," President Tô Lâm remarked, stressing the importance of trust and shared goals in the partnership between the two nations.
